此类别下大部分专业都是比较偏向theoretical （mass communication/ international communication/ politics and communication/ intercultural communication等）。它主要是为了研究社会信息体系和规律的学科，并且与其他学科都有着很多密切的联系，such as 社会学，人类学，心理学，政治学等等。许多学校开设的传播学的课程，都是延伸了本科的基础理论，Newcastle的cross-culture communication，还有Lancaster的mass communication。大概率讲，communication类别毕业的人都选择了further education。此类别申请为英国常规申请条件（均分80，IELTS 6.5）。
